Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a star. His play on the court is exceptional. His style off the court has helped him become an icon. Converse and Shai have recently released one of the hottest sneakers of the year, the SHAI 001.

SHAI

The Oklahoma City Thunder guard is one of the top players in the NBA. 2025 was a stellar year for him. He was named MVP of the league and helped his team win the NBA Championship. He also brought home the Finals MVP Award.

Shai solidified himself as a superstar in 2025. As we know, an NBA Superstar has to have a signature shoe.

Signature

In 2025, the Converse SHAI 001 launched. It is easily one of the hottest shoes of the year. The shoe prioritizes comfort. Containment and durability are a major piece of the shoe's design.

The puffed, molded uppers offer supreme comfort and also help the shoe achieve its futuristic aesthetic. The padded tongue has Shai’s signature logo. The zipper on the upper is a unique design choice.

Canadian Born

Gilgeous-Alexander was born in 1998. He is from Canada. His parents were both talented athletes.

His mother competed at the Olympics as a track star. Shai’s father coached him in basketball when he was young. A cousin, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, also plays in the NBA. Athleticism is in his DNA.

Wildcat

In college, he would play a single season for the University of Kentucky. Kentucky is one of the most legendary college basketball institutions ever. Playing for the school put a lot of eyes on the guard. He did not disappoint with strong numbers in his Freshman season.

NBA

Shai was taken with the 11th Pick in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. He would then be traded on the same day to the Los Angeles Clippers. His tenure in LA would only last a single season before he would be traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
